How Self Doubt Is Keeping You From Being Seen

Self Doubt is keeping your from being seen

You know you have a story to share with the world. You’ve even started playing around with the idea of writing a book. you know it will have a great impact on others. But self-doubt is holding you back from putting it out there.

The Dreaded SELF-DOUBT

I hear ya. Self-doubt rears its ugly head often when we least expect it. This is something I have struggled with many times. I often didn’t believe it when I was told my writing was good.  I still have times when I hesitate to publish my work.

What if no one reads it or worse yet, they read it and hate it?

What if it offends someone?

Who am I to speak these words, offer my thoughts, share my experiences?

But I’m learning if I want to be the recognized published author I dream of I have to get past the self-doubt .
I wanted to share my thoughts on how self-doubt can keep you from being a published author and ways to, maybe not completely overcome it, but to push it aside so you aren’t paralyzed with fear.

Self Doubt Stems from a Lack of Belief in Your Abilities

how to overcome self-doubtIf you don’t believe in yourself, who will?
Successful authors have all experienced moments of self doubt, but published authors also have an amazing ability to move past the lack of confidence and force themselves to go on.
That ability comes from experience and knowledge that even failure provides an advantage of knowing that you tried. Writers can sometimes find themselves in a perpetual state of self doubt.
Picking the right words is one of you’re biggest fears. Maybe you  worry no one will like your book. Even when you know you have talent,  there is  the worry that you’re writing isn’t good enough for writing and you’re a great big fraud.

Overcoming Self-Doubt

You can overcome self-doubt by writing anyway, every day. And putting it out there for the world to read it. It doesn’t have to be your book at first. Post a bit of your writing on social media, in a blog post or through an email.
Stand up to self-doubt whenever you catch yourself worrying. no matter how hard, keep pushing through it. Talk to yourself in positive ways. Instead of saying “No one will read what I have to say” say something like “This is the best work I’ve done so far. Lots of people are enjoying my words!”.
The more you do this, every day hopefully, the less self-doubt will appear. It may not disappear completely, but at least you’ll know how to beat it back down.
Self-Doubt to Confident Author
Once you’ve beaten the writer self-doubt, you’ll have the confidence to self-publish that book. Look at it this way. Isn’t it a bit unfair to keep your knowledge, your experiences, your motivation, whatever you’re sharing, to yourself instead of helping those who need what you know?
